OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
ABOUT HFH OF NORTH LOUISIANA
Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
ALL ARE WELCOME
Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL
Founded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate and repair more than 600,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 3 million people worldwide.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY’S MISSION FOCUS
MISSION VISION
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
– Psalm 24:1
For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will guide them to the springs of the water of life, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.
– Revelation 7:16-17
MISSION STATEMENT
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.
– James 2:14, 24
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love…We love because He first loved us.
– I John 4:7-9, 19
PRINCIPLE 1: Demonstrate The Love And Teachings Of Jesus Christ
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. And the King will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.
– Matthew 25:35-36, 40
He answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
– Luke 10:27
PRINCIPLE 2: Advocate On Behalf Of Those In Need Of Decent Shelter
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
– Proverbs 31:9
They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor, which was actually what I was eager to do.
– Galatians 2:10
PRINCIPLE 3: Focus On Shelter By Building And Renovating Simple, Decent, Affordable Houses
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
– Psalms 127:1
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free and to break every yoke? is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
– Isaiah 58:6-7
PRINCIPLE 4: Engage Broad Community Through Inclusive Leadership And Diverse Partnerships
But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
– I Corinthians 12:18-20
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are.
– Romans 12:9-10, 14-16
PRINCIPLE 5: Promote Dignity Through Full Partnership With Habitat Homeowners And Future Home Partners
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
– Genesis 1:27
The righteous know the rights of the poor.
– Proverbs 29:7a
PRINCIPLE 6: Promote Transformational And Sustainable Community Development
They devote themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.
– Acts 2:42-45
But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
– Amos 5:24
